The Hamptons' Topping Rose House: A Deft Marriage of Old and New Architecture

Adding a new wing to a historic property is often architecture’s version of a shotgun marriage, which is why The Hotel Detective finds Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton so interesting.

Topping Rose House is the first bona fide, full-service luxury resort in the Hamptons: It has a 75-seat farm-to-table restaurant (with some farms just up the road) overseen by Tom Collicchio, a heated outdoor pool, a Naturopatica Spa, an event space in a 19th-century barn, and a one-acre organic garden (yes, that’s now part of a full-service resort). It’s far ahead of the predominant brand of Hamptons luxury, renovated motor courts and motels with Frette sheets, which are more retro-chic than five-star.
