For The Peninsula Hotel's new spa, Champalimaud's design drew on the philosophy of ESPA, which adapts the best of ancient and modern therapies to create individualized treatments for each guest. A soaring entry welcomes patrons to a modern expression of organic forms that immediately sets a mood of deep calm and restoration. Behind the reception desk, an arrangement of figurative tree forms bathed in light create a three-story sculptural composition with a curving stair that leads to renovated pool and fitness areas.
Sophisticated expression of form through use of fine materials is integral to the concepts of purity and balance. The aesthetic is further enhanced with the rich presence of marble, warm woods, and supple plaster walls in cinnabar, amber, and charcoal tones. From the crescent-shaped tealounge, diffused with natural light through linen veils, to the sculptural relaxation and treatment rooms, to the uplifting elegance of the pool terrace and its view of New York, the spa offers guests a transformative journey each time they return.
